Tătărăşti - The Orthodox Church of “Archangels St. Michael and Gabriel”

The vernacular history kept the tradition of a wooden church, dating from the 17th century. The present-day building was built in 1814, and it is one of the most beautiful churches in the area. It is remarkable for the baroque elements of the architecture: the semicircular apse, the windows of the nave and the two leveled tower. The steeple of the tower still keeps the specific elements of the baroque style. The iconostasis is very impressive dating from 1901. The sculpture is very rich in vegetal motifs. On the upper level, the medallions are depicting the Prophets, each of them being separated with sinuous decorative motifs, conferring the screen of the iconostasis an aspect of a lace. The church was repainted by professor Schnell from Satu Mare, in 1956. (DB).
